Your Name: Brooke
Age: 28
Hometown: Wheaton, IL (Suburb of Chicago)
Current Location: Schaumburg, IL

How did your interest in fashion begin?
Actually, my interest in fashion stems from being pretty anti-social as a youngster. Since I had no friends to speak of, I decided to use my energy being creative. If I could create clothing that reflected the way I saw myself, and portrayed it to the outside world without making me feel uncomfortable, then that is what I created.

What motivated you to start selling your designs and what were your expectations when you started?
I feel that there are so many young people that either get lost in the crowd, or stand out for the wrong reasons. I go to the mall, or the movies, and see young girls with their bellies bared, and their pants leaving nothing to the imagination, and guys with their boxers hanging out, and the look on their faces tells me that they feel uncomfortable. I am interested in fashion not only as an industry itself, but also as a means for people to be able to express to the outside world the way they feel comfortable being, living in their own skin. It’s November, hurray! (Don’t forget to set your clocks back!)

November is National Novel Writing month… and it’s also a month for awesome contests right here at WhatTheCraft!

First, don’t forget to enter your Halloween Costumes for the October Contest! Voting starts on the 5th!

Next up… Husqvarna Viking is sponsoring the November contest!  They will be furnishing an ER 10 Embellishing Machine as a prize!

The theme for the November contest is embellishment!

Take something boring, something old, something tiresome, monotonous, and lifeless, and give it some sparkle! You don’t have to literally use sparkles, of course.
What you start with can be new, old, or made-from-scratch. Thrift a table and spiff it up. Buy a plain jane t-shirt and slap on a stencil. Take that old pair of jeans you never wear anymore and bedazzle the bejesus out of them. Be creative!

The HUSQVARNA VIKING ER10 embellishing machine is designed to create beautiful embellishments on just about anything.

There is no threading, no tension, and no bobbin, just five special needles that felt layers of fabric together by meshing the fibers, fabrics, yarns, and more with the up and down movement of the needles. This machine can also be used to create fraying and worn effects, on jeans and other denim fabrics. Move the fabric under the needles to felt your original design with textures and fibers. Personalize your garments, gifts, and crafts. It’s easy to place roving, fabric, scraps, fibers, threads, yarn, trim or any fiber or textile under the needles to achieve stunning one-of-a-kind effects. Use the HUSQVARNA VIKING® ER10™ embellishing machine for all kinds of projects; garments, quilts, cushions, throws, wall hangings, kids stuff, scrapbooks and more. Set your creativity free!
