How to Make a Paper Owl Mask

What better way to celebrate the oncoming new school year than to craft an ode to the wisest member of the animal kingdom (and also one of my personal favorites)- the owl!

Inspired by the awesomely colorful AstroBrights Paper, I crafted up some owl masks.

And now you can, too! My owl mask template is available to download for FREE here.

Once you’ve downloaded and printed the mask template, it’s time to start decorating!

You’ll need:

• Paper
• Scissors
• Glue

Optional:

• Xacto knife
• Feathers, sequins, buttons, etc.
• Markers, paint, crayons, etc.

This mask was super quick and simple. After I cut the mask out, I drew “feather” like patterns on the back side of the mask and used my Xacto knife to cut the designs out.

For this mask, I cut the edges into fringe. Then I cut 2 small circles and 2 big circles for around the eyes. I cut the edges of those into fringe, too. Once everything is glued into place, ruffle the fringe a little to give it a little more texture.

And lastly, my favorite! This one took the longest, but it was worth it. Cut a bunch (A BUNCH!) of little feather or petal shapes out of your paper, and start gluing them on! I used different colors, but a monochromatic mask would look cool, too. Start gluing on the outside of the mask, and work your way inward to the eyes. When all of your feather pieces are glued and dried, bend and fold them a little for a 3 dimensional effect.

When you’re finished, you can add elastic or ribbon so you can tie the mask on, or you can glue your mask to a stick. Maybe your owl mask will make an appearance this Halloween!
