Everybody loves pie. Don’t even try telling me you don’t love pie. I won’t believe you.
A few years ago, I got this idea in my head that I wanted to become an Expert Pie Maker. I made a few pies, and they were tasty. But HOLY CRAP, making pies from scratch is a lot of work! The result is that I am still but a lowly Novice Pie Maker.
So I was pretty pumped to try the new line of Mrs. Smith’s Signature Deep Dish pies. You buy them frozen and then bake at home, so you can have that fresh-out-of-the-oven, still warm slice of pie without all the work of making dough, rolling it out, preparing the filling, etc.
There are 4 tasty flavors available: Dutch Apple with Caramel sauce, Cherry Pie with Butter Fudge sauce, Peach Pie with Cream Cheese icing, and Pumpkin Pie with Cream Cheese icing.
Mr. Smarmy’s favorite was the Dutch Apple Pie, which comes with a caramel sauce. I served it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top (because apple pie isn’t apple pie without ice cream!) and drizzled the caramel sauce on the ice cream.
I’m a sucker for pumpkin pie, myself. The pumpkin pie comes with cream cheese icing, which I used to decorate the top of the pie with snowflake shapes.
They kind of spread out into blobby shapes, because I’m a glutton and couldn’t wait for the pie to cool all the way before eating it. Next time I will let the pie get nice and cool before decorating. Or I’ll try… I can’t make promises when there’s fresh baked pie in the house.
