How did your interest in fashion begin? I guess it began in my early teens, when I had a huge desire to be unique. It didn’t make sense to me, to shop at the same stores, and buy the same things as the rest of the “punks” in order to be unique, so I started making my own stuff. It started off super basic.. I’d draw on shirts with fabric markers, I’d sew a purse for myself. After a while it progressed into making altered t-shirts, and even some shirts and skirts from scratch. Whatever I felt I needed at the time.
What motivated you to start selling your designs and what were your expectations when you started? I tried it for fun after making something for myself that ended up to big. I put it on ebay, thinking it would just be fun to see if anyone bid at all, not expecting anything from it. After that I became addicted. It quickly became very time and money consuming. I’d make some money, I’d spend it on some more materials, or a new machine… just snowballed from there. Read more…

How did your interest in fashion begin? Well, like most women I’ve always loved clothes. As a young girl I often had ideas of what I thought would look good on me or what I would like to find while shopping. When my ideas weren’t what I was finding in the stores, I would get motivated to attempt to make it myself. My mother taught me to sew early on and because she worked and didn’t have the time, she would buy patterns and have me make clothes for my little sister. Additionally, I took a sewing class in Junior High School that helped fine tune my basic skills. I’ve always loved having the ability to modify and/or create my own clothes.Read more…

How did your interest in fashion begin? Oh gee, I was a wee little girly when I realized my love for clothing and fashion. I still remember from when I was 5, my favourite one piece shorts jumper! Sky blue and white striped stretch knit with a zipper up the center and flutter sleeve. I also remember quite vividly when my father washed the car with it!!!Spicy Toast
What motivated you to start selling your designs and what were your expectations when you started?
I’ve always been complimented on my fashion sense. People seemed amazed by outfits i’d just put together from thrift store bargains, etc. ever since I can remember. So, I thought, I am sure if I designed my own clothes, people would buy them! I thought, lets give it a try, i’ve got nothing to lose!

Current Location: still here…

How did your interest in fashion begin? I’ve always been fascinated with fashion, for as long as I remember. I shop, but seldom find exactly what I desire. Naturally, I began making my own clothes.
What motivated you to start selling your designs and what were your expectations when you started? I worked for a young e-commerce company, fresh out of college. This is where I learned about Photoshop, studio photography, auction design, etc. One day this company went bankrupt… so I started selling clothes from my closet. I didn’t have expectations, I needed rent money. I guess everything just fell into place.
Do you have any formal training in fashion, art or design? I studied nursing and psychology in college. Post graduation, on a whim… I applied to Parsons of New York and got accepted!Read more…
